Melbourne is having a great year for celebrity praise, with Dua Lipa naming The Paperback as one of her favourite bookshops and Dom Dolla revealing his favourite spots around town. And now, Grammy Award-winning artist Laufey has curated her very own Melbourne intinerary, so you can follow in her footsteps and enjoy A Very Laufey Day. Back for its fourth year, this Icelandic singer-songwriter invites her fans to experience some her favourite spots in cities around the world. This year is all about celebrating art in all its forms, from museums to books and everything in between. And she’s prepared an absolutely wonderful day out for Melbourne. A Very Laufey Day will take place this week on Sunday, August 23.
A Very Laufey Day
Start your day right with a nice cup of coffee or matcha from Tori’s. To celebrate the day, this sweet spot in the city is serving up some Laufey-inspired drinks. Will you try Rhapsody in Green, an iced matcha latte, or Rhapsody in Blue, a signature iced latte?
These drinks are available until sold out at their location on Niagara Lane from 10am to 6pm. You can also visit their pop-up at 124 Exhibition Street from 10am to 12pm, for drinks and fresh bagels.
Then, get into the spirit of the day by celebrating the arts! Laufey has named the National Gallery of Victoria has the place to be, and there’s also an AVID museum companion guide to help you make the most of your experience. Admire a work without reading the label for a full minute, study a portrait, find something that isn’t obviously beautiful and more. If you don’t feel like a museum visit, you could always try something else, like going to the theatre, watching the ballet or listening to a classical or jazz performance.
After that, go to Dymocks Melbourne and find a book to read. They will have AVID merch for purchase, as well as all of her Laufey Book Club picks. Pause for a sweet treat, and head over to Kōri Ice Cream. They’re celebrating the day with some small batch specialty flavours. Will you try the Laufberry (strawberry cherry blossom shortcake), Dreamer Matcha (blueberry matcha), Lovesick Chocolate (dark chocolate sorbet with raspberry chocolate stracciatella) or Cuckoo Cookie Dough (earl grey/hojicha chocolate cookie dough)?

End the day on an enchanting note with a special Candlelight concert at the Athenaeum Theatre. In this dreamy experience, you’ll hear your favourite songs by Laufey, brought to life by a string quartet. Hear songs like Dreamer and Lover Girl, while bathed in the light of thousands of flickering candles. The shows will take place at 6:30pm and 8:30pm, and you can get your tickets here.
Otherwise, swing by The JazzLab in Brunswick, and listen to pianist and composer James O’Brien perform with his quintet. Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.
