The Anzac Day public holiday is tomorrow, on Saturday, April 25. This significant day, set on the anniversary of the original landing in Gallipoli, is used to recognise all who have served our country in times of war and peace, and remember those who have sacrificed themselves for Australia. Since it is a public holiday, you won’t exactly be able to go about your day as usual, as businesses will have different trading hours. Here’s what’s open and what’s closed around Melbourne this Anzac Day.

What’s open or closed around Melbourne on Anzac Day 2026
In Victoria, Anzac Day is a restricted trading day, which means that most businesses will be closed between midnight and 1pm on April 25. This means that supermarkets, like Woolworths and Coles, will be closed until 1pm. This also includes liquor stores, such as Dan Murphy’s and BWS. Other major retailers, like Kmart, Big W, Target, JB Hi-Fi and Bunnings, will also be closed until 1pm.

Beyond retail, cinemas and other entertainment venues, such as concerts or plays, will also have restricted trading hours, opening as usual from 1pm.
However, if you need to grab something from Chemist Warehouse or Priceline, you’re in luck. Specific kinds of stores, including chemists, petrol shops, restaurants, cafes and takeaway outlets will be open before 1pm. Stores with 20 or fewer employees can also stay open.

So, if you’re attending the Dawn Service and you’re in need of some breakfast, there will be shops open serving up food and coffee. In Melbourne, these include venues like BearBrass (open from 6:30am), Hopscotch (open from 7am), Little Jin Coffee (open from 8am) and The Duke of Wellington (open from 8am).
Fancy playing a bit of Two-up? You can take part in this classic game at venues like Mail Exchange Hotel, The Waterside Hotel, Imperial Hotel Bourke Street, Garden State Hotel and more pubs around Melbourne.
If there’s somewhere you’d like to go tomorrow, just check the opening hours before you leave the house.
