Manningham Council has greenlit a major outdoor upgrade at Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Templestowe, marking one of its largest capital investments at around $30 million to breathe new life into the bustling hub that draws 2,500 visitors daily.
Council approved the project on 24th February, advancing the next phase of a long-term masterplan.
They greenlit replacing the ageing 50-metre outdoor pool—built around the 1956 Melbourne Olympics—with a sleek, accessible redesign boasting a ramp entry, moveable swim wall for flexible training, upgraded change rooms, and tiered spectator seating to cheer on local clubs and schools.

Manningham Mayor Jim Grivas hailed the move as a game-changer for local health and connection.
“This upgrade goes beyond new facilities—it’s an investment in a healthier, happier Manningham for years to come,” he said.
“We listened to locals and prioritised enhanced water play areas, more shade, better school and club spaces, plus an integrated indoor-outdoor café.”

Families score big with a dedicated kids’ zone featuring a toddler pool and splash play area. Landscaped “Your Backyard” spaces add BBQs, shaded picnic spots, and social nooks that feel like an extension of home.

Local firm McCorkell Constructions nabbed the contract after a rigorous tender, locking in quality work on budget and timeline.
Shovels hit the ground in April 2026, with outdoor areas closing after the 2025/26 summer and targeting a reopen before 2027/28 season—roughly 15 months total.
Indoors stays fully operational through partner Aligned Leisure, so lap swimmers, gym rats and fitness fans face minimal disruption.
