A massive and free new outdoor exhibition has just opened in the Macedon Ranges. Escape to Hanging Rock Winery, just one hour away from Melbourne, and marvel at over 50 kinetic sculptures from 30 artists. As you walk through the vineyard, you’ll see these incredible sculptures moving in the wind, against the majestic backdrop of Hanging Rock. Art in the Vines: Art in Motion 2 is open from now until the end of April 2027.

Art in the Vines: Art in Motion 2 at Hanging Rock Winery
Three acres of the winery’s grounds have been transformed into a stunning outdoor gallery. Wander through the vineyard, and marvel at these kinetic sculptures from local and interstate artists. This exhibition will continuously shift as you walk through it, with the pieces responding to wind and changing conditions.
The exhibition includes six pieces from artist Rudi Jass, who combines an understanding of mechanics from years working for Porsche with a creative lens, creating carefully balanced works with fluid movement.

Meanwhile, Mark Reyment won the Hanging Rock Winery Sculpture Prize for his quirky piece, At least you know it’s trying. Local chainsaw artist Paul Hurley received the Arcare Prize for best up and coming artist for his sculpture, Black Cockatoo.
“There’s a wonderful diversity of work in this exhibition, from playful and unexpected pieces to sculptures that make you stop and look a little longer,” said art curator Malcolm Thomson. “The kinetic focus set our artists a challenge: to think about how movement could become part of the sculpture itself. That calls for both imagination and practical problem-solving, and it’s been fascinating to see the different ways they’ve responded.”

This exhibition surrounds the winery’s Cellar Door, and offers stunning views of Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon. When you’re not admiring the sculptures, swing by the Cellar Door and enjoy a free wine tasting. Then, treat yourself to a platter, filled with local artisan cheese, estate-grown beef and seasonal accompaniments. Tasting platters start at $30. You don’t need a reservation for the wine tastings or the platter.

You’re welcome to bring a picnic blanket and unwind on the lawn, or relax on one of the picnic tables or in the enclosed marquee area.
Hanging Rock Winery is dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along, as long as they’re on a lead.
