The LEGO® exhibition we’ve all been waiting for has opened at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Created by award-winning artist, Nathan Sawaya, The Art of the Brick Immersive Experience is a brand new version of the beloved exhibition that has toured globally. Get ready to view over 100 sculptures made completely out of LEGO® bricks, some as big as 25 feet long! Tickets for the experience are still available, but we suspect they’ll sell out fast – especially since it’s one of the best school holiday activities in Melbourne this winter!

What To Expect At Art Of The Brick
For most of us LEGO® triggers a few feelings of nostalgia, making us think back to our own childhood creations. But never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined that what Nathan Sawaya has created was possible. His sculptures have turned LEGO® into works of art, and sometimes he even replicates famous works of art.
Sawaya’s sculptures are not only incredibly intricate, but in this new version of the exhibition the rooms are also immersive and some of the sculptures even move. Some attractions you can look forward to include seven human sculptures that cover each of the colours of the rainbow, and even an installation of over 250 LEGO® skulls that move to a wave of spectacular LED lights and sound.
Room Of Endangered Animals: PERNICIEM
One highlight of the experience is the room of endangered animals, which is a collaboration between photographer Dan West and Nathan Sawaya. Visitors will be able to see life-size LEGO® animals as their habitats are projected around them.
The exhibit is called “PERNICIEM” which is Latin for extinction. The two artist’s turn their attention towards the world’s most endangered species, covering five main habitats; oceans, forests, deserts, grasslands and the arctic. The message that the exhibit hopes to convey is that if we do not act to conserve our planet and its species, then we will be left with having to create an artificial reality.
Sawaya’s sculptures are built, photographed and rendered into West’s photography, creating a form of augmented reality that references the increasing digitisation of our world. This merging of talents between two world renowned artists is a must-see at Art of the Brick.
