
The Australian Open is in full swing, and when you’re not watching your favourite tennis stars compete, there’s lots of things to do around the courts. Play your own games, listen to live music, visit on themed days and more! Ground Pass tickets start from $49, and gives you access to plenty of fun things around the precinct, as well as the outdoor courts, if you’re keen to pop by and soak in the vibes. For matches, you will need to purchase a ticket to Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena or John Cain Arena. The Australian Open is on from now until Sunday January 26. 1. AO Hilltop
No tickets? No problem! Wander over to AO Hilltop and soak up the tennis vibes at this spot on Birrarung Marr. Watch the action on the big screen, sip on delicious drinks and vibe to live DJ sets. The Canadian Club Racquet Club is free to enter, and is on from now until January 26.
2. AO Live
Love music? Then you can’t miss AO Live. Taking place over three days, this exciting event will take place at John Cain Arena, and feature exciting artists like Benson Boone, Kesha and more. Check it out from Thursday January 23 to Saturday January 25.
3. TOPCOURT
New to the Australian Open this year is the world-first TOPCOURT. Open daily from 10am to 10pm, this immersive new space has all sorts of experiences for you to try. Keep it digital with interactive games and console and PC tournaments. Or, get moving with a game of padel, table tennis and more. There’s plenty of fun events to look forward to, including live music, DJs and lookalike competitions. 4. Ballpark
Keep the whole family entertained with a trip to the AO Ballpark. Open from 10am to 7pm, this space for kids will have fun stage shows featuring characters like Paddington and Peppa Pig. There’s also fun games and activities like a new waterslide, an obstacle course, mini tennis courts and more. More details here.
5. The Village
Located between Kia Arena and John Cain Arena, you’ll find The Village. This space features a new viewing platform that will allow you to watch your favourite tennis players practice. Nearby, you’ll find some bars if you’re thirsty. On January 25 and 26, you’re also welcome to both watch and play a game of pickleball. More details here.
6. Food and drink
You’ll find plenty of delicious things to eat and drink from vendors around Melbourne at the Australian Open. Find French fare from Entrecôte, treat yourself to artisan pizza from D.O.C, enjoy a bite from Piccolo Panini Bar, cool off with soft serve from Peach Melbourne and more.
7. Evonne Goolagong Cawley Day
Named after Australian tennis legend and First Nations ambassador, this day will feature plenty of First Nations music, dance, art and food. Check it out on Wednesday January 15.
8. M&M’s Store
Australia’s first M&M’s Store has come to Melbourne as part of the Australian Open. Mix and match your favourite colours from the chocolate wall, and find two AO exclusive shades. While you’re there, snap a pic with the whole M&M’s gang, and post for your best ace shot alongside Red and Yellow. There’s also exclusive merch at this pop-up store. 9. All Abilities Day
Taking place on Tuesday January 21, All Abilities Day Will showcase the many ways that people of all abilities can enjoy tennis. Look forward to a great match with Dylan Alcott and friends, see the Wheelchair Tennis Championships, take part in games, see live performances and more.
10. Pride Day
Pride Day is back at the Australian Open on Friday January 24. Celebrate your authentic self at this bright and fabulous day for the LGBTQIA+ community. Highlights include Glam Stations, roving Drag Kings and Queens and plenty of live music and performances.
