Summer might be over, but there’s still plenty of fun to be found by the seaside this autumn. And soon, the Frankston Waterfront will be transformed into a sandy tableau of iconic villains, thanks to the return of the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships. The top sculptors from around Australia will compete in a 300 tonne sand arena, crafting life-sized masterpieces. See it for yourself on the Frankston foreshore from Saturday April 5 to Sunday April 27.
‘The Villains of Storytime’ at the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships 2025
Over the opening weekend, on Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6, you’ll watch the sculptors race against the clock to finish their pieces in time. Then, hear the announcements and find out who will be crowned the Australian Champion and the Doubles Champions.
After opening weekend, you’ll be able to see the completed sculptures, and cast your vote in the People’s Choice Awards.
When you’re not marvelling at your favourite villains, find plenty of fun for the whole family, with sand sculpting workshops, speed carving demonstrations, a giant sand pit and even mini golf. There’s also a Sand Museum to check out, where you’ll learn about the history of sand sculpting in Australia. Over the Easter weekend, there will also be an Easter egg hunt.
If you get a bit hungry, there will be a variety of food trucks available.
This is a ticketed event, and you can purchase them online or at the ticket box when you arrive. Entry is $22 for adults, $17 for concession and $12 for kids aged 3 to 12. Children aged 2 and under are free. Some activities, such as mini golf, are also an extra cost.
