Last week, Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie Competition took place on the Gold Coast. Run by the Baking Association of Australia, over 300 bakeries around the country battled for glory across three days. Thousands of pies and pasties were judged across 12 categories, such as Plain Mince Pie, Vegetarian Pie and Traditional Pastie. Each entry was judged twice, first cold, then piping hot, with the results based on the combined scores. And to our delight, a Victorian bakery was crowned as Australia’s Best Pie for 2026. So, the next time you’re craving a pie, head on over to Country Cob Bakery.
Australia’s Best Pie 2026
Country Cob Bakery is no stranger to victory. This is the fifth time that they’ve won the top spot, after claiming the crown in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023. This time, they won the honours for their Malaysian Prawn Pie. This flavoursome pie features prawns cooked in a Malaysian-style curry, infused with spices and coconut milk, and bundled up in golden flaky pastry. This pie helped them win Australia’s Best Seafood Pie, as well as the ultimate honour of Australia’s Best Pie.
If you’re not a fan of seafood, you could always try their Cowboy Beef Pie, which was named as Australia’s Best Flavoured Beef Pie. This pie features tender ground beef, cooked in a BBQ-spiced gravy, and filled with cheese, bacon, mushroom, chili and mustard.
On top of these awards, the bakery also took home 12 Gold Medals.
