Spring is here, and there’s plenty of pretty gardens for us to admire blooming flowers, such as Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden and Alowyn Gardens. But, what about picking your own? Just 80 minutes from Melbourne, set amongst the rolling hills of the aptly named Flowerdale, lies a delightfully dreamy flower farm. Wander through the rows of blooming ranunculus at twilight and pick some to take home at Bloom Into You Flower Farm. If you can’t make it this spring, the season extends into summer, with more seasonal blooms like dahlias and zinnias. In spring, Gather & Bloom sessions take place on Saturdays from 4pm.
Bloom Into You Flower Farm
A glass of Prosecco, or a chilled non-alcoholic version, sets the scene upon arrival, inviting you to slow down and drink in the delicate landscape before you. Receive a florist harvest bucket to keep, as well as some handy snips, then drift into the flower fields. Amble along the rows, and pick some beautiful blooms to take home. You’re welcome to take your time and take as many photos as you please.
You’re also welcome to bring a picnic along, with plenty of scenic picnic spots around the fields. If you’d like, you can also add a grazing box for two. While you relax, listen to the sound of live music.
In spring, admire the cooler colour palette of thousands of ranunculous flowers. Then, in summer, the fields burst into bloom with cosmos, echinacea, celosia, amaranth, billy buttons and more seasonal flowers. Whenever you choose to visit, you can expect an utterly enchanting time out.
Sessions run for three hours, ending at 7pm. If you’d like to stay a little longer, you can book an overnight stay at their luxurious, on-site accommodation, Villa Minto. This peaceful retreat overlooks the flower farm, and offers sunrise views of the hills beyond.
Things to know
This is an outdoor event, so dress sensibly with closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen, as well as a light layer for the early evening. You don’t need to worry about bringing your own bucket or snips, these will be provided for you.
Gather & Bloom sessions run on Saturdays, from 4pm to 7pm. Since this relies on nature, booking dates open once the rows come into flower.
Tickets are $135 per person, and include a drink on arrival and a bucket to keep. Children under 16 can come along for free with a ticket-holding adult.
