Victoria is packed with stunning beaches and seaside towns, offering plenty of opportunities for awesome coastal walks all year long. And if you’re looking for a nice one that’s not too far from Melbourne, why don’t you try hiking to Bushrangers Bay? Located in the Mornington Peninsula, this walk promises dramatic ocean views and crystal-clear rock pools. So, grab your hiking shoes, put on some sunscreen and breathe in the salty sea air on this magnificent outing.

Bushrangers Bay
Your journey begins at the Cape Schanck Lighthouse. From there, meander through coastal scrub, and take in stunning views of the ocean as you walk along the clifftops. Eventually, you’ll head down some steep stairs to the dramatic Bushrangers Bay.
Named after two escaped convicts, this stunning and sandy beach is surrounded by basalt cliffs. Try to time your visit so that you’ll arrive at low tide, because this area has an abundance of cool rock pools. But, be careful. Although this beach is utterly gorgeous, it’s also hazardous due to strong rips and large waves. It’s unpatrolled, and swimming is not recommended. Relax on the sand, and watch in awe as the wild waves crash against the rocks. The walk from Cape Schanck is a 5.4km return journey that takes about two hours to complete.

Alternatively, you could also access the bay from the car park on Boneo Road. This section of the Two Bays Walking Track will take you through a Banksia forest and grassy clearings, where you’ll spot wildlife like kangaroos and native birds. This walk is 2.5km one way, or a 5km return journey.
As you go, remember to stick to the paths! The vulnerable Hooder Plovers nest in the dunes, and snakes also live in the area. Don’t forget to bring items like a hat, plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen and insect repellent. Phone reception is limited in the area.
Unfortunately, as this is set within a national park, dogs aren’t allowed to come along on this adventure.
