Candlelight: Peaky Blinders in Melbourne
In case you’ve been living under a rock since 2013: Peaky Blinders is Steven Knight‘s BBC drama, which ran for six series until 2022. It follows Tommy Shelby and his family through 1920s Birmingham, an industrial city in England’s West Midlands, just after the First World War. And they’re not done yet. The story came back in 2026 with the film The Immortal Man.
But the music is half the story. The show is known for pairing its period setting with modern rock, and that’s exactly why it works by candlelight, reset as dark, powerful arrangements. On the list: “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the show’s opening theme, and “Do I Wanna Know?” by Arctic Monkeys. Do you wanna know? We figured.
The format’s simple: about an hour of music, surrounded by thousands of candles. There’s no dress code, but a sharp three-piece suit and a flat cap won’t go astray (the Shelbys have standards, after all).
Candlelight’s tribute repertoire has covered a fair bit of ground already, from Bridgerton and Disney Princess to WB Horror and The Wizard of Oz. Now it’s adding its moodiest chapter yet.
