100 Years Film Festival at The Capitol
The opulent theatre was built in 1924. Designed by celebrated architects Marion Mahony Griffin and Walter Burley Griffin, this spectacular space has played movies, hosted performances, held festivals and entertained plenty of Melburnians over the years. After falling into disrepair, it reopened in 2019 and was restored to its former glory.
Pop by and catch a movie in this grand space to mark the centennial. Films on the line-up include family favourites like Babe, ET and Charlotte’s Web, as well as other great movies like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, My Fair Lady, Sunset Boulevard and Priscilla – Queen of the Desert.
Some of the films, like The Wizard of Oz and The Towering Inferno, will be accompanied by a dazzling light show. Watch the crystalline ceiling light up with hundreds of dreamy colours as the movie unfolds. This experience will transport you back to the silent film era, to when the light displays in the ceiling were choreographed to play in time with live orchestral scores.
Tickets are just $10, plus a $1.50 booking fee.
