The Chapel Street Festival has been postponed. Originally set to return on Sunday February 23 after a 25-year hiatus, the Chapel Street Precinct Association (CSPA) have announced that the festival will go ahead at a later date.
“We are committed to continuing our work with stakeholders, businesses, and the community to identify a new date and ensure we deliver an event that showcases the best of the Chapel Street Precinct,” the team said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing updates with you as we refine our plans for the festival and will continue to celebrate everything that makes Chapel Street a unique and thriving hub for our community.”
Chapel Street Festival
This highly-anticipated festival was expected to attract over 100,000 visitors. It’s not clear yet if any of the festival elements will change, but here’s what was expected for its original date in February.
- Anthem Park – Find plenty of entertainment for families, as well as live bands and DJs on the main stage.
- The Pillars – Look forward to an array of delicious food and drink, as well as a showcase of fashion and art.
- Chapel Street Food Court – Feeling hungry? Grab a bit from some of the best eateries around the area, including Mr Miyagi, Hawker Hall and LK Hospitality. Businesses around Chapel Street will also have specially curated menus on the day.
- Chap Laps Classic Car Show – see over 50 classic cars and feel amazed by a thrilling motocross demo.
- Colour Kingdom – Let the kids have fun with face painting and games.
- Radiant Fields – Chill out with yoga, Pilates and even a spiritual music show at dusk.
“The Chapel Street Festival was legendary back in the day — drawing hundreds of thousands to celebrate live music, food and fashion,” said Matt Lanigan, Chapel Street Festival Director.
The Victorian Government funded $450,000 to help bring this festival back to life. Event organisers hope that this festival will grow to be like the St Kilda Festival, which draws thousands of people to the neighbourhood and surrounding suburbs.
There’s no word yet on when the festival will return. In the meantime, see what’s happening at Chapel Street here.
