The Chinese Traditional Cultural Festival is coming back to Melbourne for its sixth year. Head to Fed Square, and experience a day filled with cultural demonstrations, live music, bustling market stalls, Hanfu parades, tasty treats and much more. It’s all happening this week on Saturday, September 19, running from 11am until 9pm.

Chinese Traditional Cultural Festival
The festivities will kick off with an opening ceremony, complete with a traditional lion dance and drum performance. After that, the Main Stage will light up with a variety of traditional and contemporary performances, including Chinese dance, opera, martial arts demonstrations and modern Guofeng fusion.

Across the square, you’ll find Kung Fu demonstrations, Tang Roly Poly performances and Hanfu parades. Play a bit of mahjong, and dive into the action with workshops, such as calligraphy, indigo dyeing and bamboo weaving.
Swing by the marketplace, where you’ll find a mix of food vendors, serving up authentic and delicious cuisine, as well as creative stalls showcasing handcrafted products, traditional accessories and more.

On the day, you might also encounter an NPC in costume. Interact with this playful guide, complete themed tasks, and feel like the festival is an unfolding story. Volunteer guides on the day will help you learn more about the stories, traditions and meanings behind different festival experiences. They’ll also point out the best spots to take photos.
