Japanese global chain restaurant, CoCo Ichibanya, is making its Australian debut right here in Melbourne. Established in 1978, this comforting franchise specialises in curry rice, and currently has over 1,400 outlets around the world. And now, it’s coming to Melbourne, opening up in a mixed-use development in the Queen Victoria Market precinct. While an official opening date hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s set to open on the corner of Franklin Street and Blender Lane before the end of this year.
CoCo Ichibanya
This popular curry spot allows you to customise your own dish. Choose your base, with pork katsu, chicken katsu, sausage, seafood curry, vegetable curry and more. Decide on your spice level and portion size, then choose from a variety of additional toppings.
The restaurant will be located in the $120 million development, Journal Market Way. Run by Journal Student Living, this student accommodation building will be 38 storeys high. It’s still under construction, and promises to have study spaces, a sky lounge, a zen garden and more cool facilities for residents.
Along with CoCo Ichibanya, St Kilda’s Lift+ Matcha Cafe is also set to open in the building. After having some curry, pop over to this cafe for a cup of premium Uji matcha. There’s all sorts of tasty drinks to try, like matcha honey lemon or salted caramel matcha. While you’re there, treat yourself to a freshly baked cookie or sweet treat. This will be the second venue for the cafe.
