An empty industrial space in Kensington will soon transform for CONVERGE, a one-night-only immersive installation of light, sound and motion.
Audiences move freely through a darkened environment where kinetic lighting and a surround sound composition unfold in real time. Meanwhile, the work builds, peaks and dissolves around the body—placing perception itself at the centre of the experience.
It’s all happening at the historic Younghusband on Saturday, July 18.
Light, sound and space in constant alignment
To begin with, CONVERGE is built as a shifting sensory field over a fixed performance. Time-coded lighting systems and surround sound design interact across the space, shaping an environment that continuously reconfigures itself.
The soundscape draws on electromagnetic hums, reverberated scrap metal, analogue synth bass and layered industrial textures. Designed for full spatial immersion, the score is as physical as it is sonic—forming an architecture of sound that audiences move through rather than observe.
The concept of convergence sits at the centre of the work: light, sound, space and body drawing toward alignment before dispersing again.
Behind the creative team
Jasmine Grace Studio presents CONVERGE, led by light artist and creative director Jasmine Grace. In addition, the studio develops immersive environments and public artworks that explore perception through light, motion and spatial design.
Moreover, the multi award-winning Jake Steele composes the installation’s sound design, drawing on over 20 years of practice across film, fashion, advertising and immersive work as a multi-award-winning electronic music producer.
For CONVERGE, he builds an industrial score from field recordings, metallic textures, analogue synthesis and digital manipulation—designed specifically for surround sound environments.
Session four closes with live performance
The final session extends the installation into a live performance environment. Performing as Tobacco Rat, Jake Steele delivers a bass-heavy set blending half-time drum and bass, dubstep and industrial rhythms, accompanied by live lighting that expands the visual language of the installation.
Audiovisual artist Vijay Thillaimuthu joins him, performing a live set using theremin-controlled modular synthesisers and creating a responsive system between gesture, sound and machine output.
CONVERGE runs across four timed sessions on Saturday, July 18. Each session lasts approximately 35 minutes, with the final session extending into a live performance format. Get your tickets here.
