It’s that time of year when the canola fields bloom and vast paddocks around Victoria transform into a vivid sea of yellow. And while the state is filled with these bright yellow flowers, taking pictures can be a little tricky, because they’re located on private farms. Thankfully, there is one place where you can really immerse yourself in the golden blooms. Shiraz Republic and Cornella Brewery have teamed up to create the Cornella Canola Walk. Take a day trip to Cornella and traipse through a special track and viewing platform within their 100 acre fields. Cornella Canola Walk is open from Friday to Monday from 11am to 5pm, from now until mid-September.
Cornella Canola Walk
Walk along the trail and experience 360 degrees of cheerful yellow flowers. You’re welcome to bring a camera and snap all the pictures you need, or fly a drone over the vast fields. As it is a working farm, remember to stay on the track and wear sensible walking shoes.
After you’ve journeyed along the trail and admired the flowers from the viewing platform, pop into the cellar door at Shiraz Republic for a nice drink or two. Pair your wine or beer with some tasty pizza.
The fields are roughly a two hour drive from Melbourne, and is perfect for day trips and weekend getaways. It’s not too far from Bendigo and Heathcote, so there’s lots to explore if you decide to stay in the area.
Entry is $10 for adults and $5 for children over 5. A family pass is $30. You can purchase your entry tickets from the Shiraz Republic cellar door. If you can’t visit during their opening hours, you can contact them directly to arrange an appointment. As this is an outdoor experience, the availability of the walk depends on the weather. Stay tuned to their social media for any updates.
