Melbourne’s always been a bit European, but this summer we’re turning it up.
Bars and restaurants in and around the city will be turning to the streets and turning parking spots, laneways, and any bit of useful pavement into new dining spaces. And not one to miss out on any of the fun, Crown Melbourne has announced their plans for this summer. (Featured image: Crown)
Introducing Pétanque Social, Melbourne’s newest outdoor venue in Southbank.
Opening on Melbourne Cup Eve, Pétanque Social is Crown’s answer to the south of France and European summer holidays but thanks to its location on the Crown Riverwalk, we’ll be getting postcard-perfect views of the city we love and the city we’ve missed for so long. You might even be able to see the Aussie Beach House across the Yarra at Arbory Afloat.
At Pétanque Social though, you’ll find day beds and lounge chairs, astro turf lawns, pastel-blue umbrellas, and a full-service bar slinging spritzes and a summer menu prepared by some of Crown’s top restaurants. We hear that there will be picnic boxes too, so sharing will be a focus at Pétanque Social which aint so bad after months locked away.
Melbourne DJs will be soundtracking the summer when the big screens aren’t showing the Spring Racing Carnival or any of the big cricket matches taking place around the country.
On weekends between 2-5pm, you’ll be hearing the sounds of Coffin Bay oysters being shucked since who can say no when they’re just $2.
Crown Melbourne’s Executive General Manager of Food & Beverage, Enda Cunningham, commented on Crown’s latest offering saying that ”Melbourne has always been the most European of Australia’s cities—so launching a south of France style bar on the river makes complete sense.”
Will there be space to play pétanque? Probably, but you’ll just have to go to find out.
Bookings will be essential.
