Melbourne’s wellness scene enters sub-zero territory as a new cryotherapy studio unveils Australia’s coldest, safest and only TGA-approved whole-body cryotherapy chamber.
°CRYO Stay Young has opened at Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood, bringing with it a whole-body cryotherapy chamber that drops to a brisk −140°C.
The three-minute treatment exposes the body to extreme cold in a controlled environment, using a method athletes and wellness enthusiasts increasingly turn to for recovery and inflammation reduction.
What sets this particular setup apart is its Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval—a rare classification in Australia’s wellness space. The system uses liquid nitrogen, which is converted into safe, breathable air before entering the chamber, meaning customers are not exposed to nitrogen vapours during treatment.
The science behind the chill

Sports medicine practitioners have used cryotherapy practice for years, with research suggesting short bursts of cold exposure can reduce muscle soreness and aid post-exercise recovery. Some studies have also explored potential benefits for sleep quality and mood, though evidence in these areas is still developing.
At Eastland, the launch reflects a broader shift toward experience-led health offerings in retail environments. General Manager Greg Balmforth said the addition signals a continued push to diversify beyond traditional shopping.
“°CRYO Stay Young introduces a service we haven’t had access to before and brings something genuinely new to the centre and broader community,” he said. “It gives people innovative ways to invest in their health.”
Recovery as routine
The studio positions cryotherapy as part of a preventative, everyday wellness routine over a specialist treatment. Satyapriya Pani from °CRYO Stay Young said the goal is to make recovery more accessible.
“Too often, we wait for a scare before we take our health seriously. Our mission is to make recovery and wellbeing part of everyday life,” they said.
Beyond the main ice-cold chamber, the space also offers infrared sauna sessions, red light therapy and hyperbaric oxygen treatments—a suite of services increasingly grouped together in modern recovery studios.
Similar multi-modality wellness hubs have been gaining traction globally, particularly in cities like Los Angeles and London, where recovery has become as much a lifestyle as a medical need.
Located on Level 1 near Gate 7, °CRYO Stay Young, Eastland Shopping Centre is now open for bookings, adding another layer to Melbourne’s growing appetite for high-tech, time-efficient wellness experiences.
