Feeling up for a summer adventure? When you’re not cooling off by the coast, going camping or diving into swimming holes, why don’t you take a moment to explore Djuwang Baring, a new mountain bike park in Creswick? Great for riders of all abilities, from beginner to advanced, this mountain biking destination has a vast network of around 70 trail segments, and 60 kilometres of trails in total. This adventurous spot opened recently on December 1, just in time for summer.
Djuwang Baring
Located in the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the trails start at Hammon Park and meander through the picturesque surrounds of Creswick. Journey through state forests, regional parks and plantation lands, and experience the landscape of the Central Victorian Goldfields. The name of the park means ‘long track’ in the Dja Dja Wurrung language.
The trailhead in Hammon Park is within walking distance of the town centre of Creswick, and has a bitumen-covered bike pump track section, which is great for bikers, skateboarders and scooter riders.
Beyond the park, you’ll find a rich network of trails suitable for different riding experiences and difficulty levels. Find scenic vistas, cross country, gravity trails, beginner loops and more. Most of the trails were designed to be travelled in a single direction, with a series of loops feeding into a central spine. Roughly 30 per cent of the network has adaptively suitable riding trails, allowing those who cannot ride a standard mountain bike to join in on the fun.
The trails also provide access to St Georges Lake and Koala Park. When you’re not on your bike, have a picnic or go for a walk. There are shared use trails in certain areas, allowing walkers, runners and dog walkers to immerse themselves in nature too.
