After a hugely successful launch that drew more than 3,500 visitors, the Docklands Waterfront Farmers’ Market is set to return to Melbourne’s waterfront this June, bringing together some of Victoria’s best growers, producers and artisan food makers.
Taking over Harbour Esplanade on Sunday, 21st June from 10am to 3pm, the market promises a vibrant day of fresh local produce, gourmet treats, live entertainment and family-friendly activities against the backdrop of Docklands’ waterfront.
A bustling market by the water
Following its debut event in May, the Docklands Waterfront Farmers’ Market is quickly establishing itself as one of Melbourne’s newest foodie destinations.
Held opposite the ferry terminal along Harbour Esplanade, the market showcases more than just fresh produce. Visitors can wander through stalls packed with seasonal Victorian-grown fruit and vegetables, artisan cheeses, specialty foods, baked goods and ready-to-eat meals while soaking up the lively atmosphere.
Whether you’re planning a weekly grocery shop, searching for locally made products or simply looking for a relaxed weekend outing, the market offers plenty of reasons to spend the day by the water.
Shop directly from Victorian farmers and producers
One of the main draws is the line-up of local stallholders from right across Victoria. Among them are Victorian High Country growers Alpine Cherries & Chestnuts, Werribee South vegetable producers A.E & R Faranda & Sons, biodynamic kiwifruit specialists Beenak Farm Kiwifruit from the Yarra Valley and Benview Farm Lamb from the Pyrenees Ranges.
Food lovers can also pick up handmade cheeses from Boatshed Cheese in Mount Martha, gourmet pâtés and pies from Chefs Fine Food, premium smoked meats from Gamze Smokehouse and authentic New York-style bagels from Five ‘n Dime Bagels.
Fresh free-range eggs, olive oil, herbs, duck and artisan chocolates round out the growing selection of market favourites.
Live music, family fun and a floating bar
Live music will help create a festival-like atmosphere throughout the day, while families can enjoy a range of activities designed to keep children entertained.
Adding to the waterfront experience, the Calypso Lady boat bar will be serving drinks from midday until 3pm, offering visitors the chance to relax with a drink while enjoying views across the harbour.
The market will also coincide with the Ship4Good Community Open Day, giving visitors an opportunity to connect with local community initiatives and explore what’s happening in the Docklands precinct.
Building a new monthly tradition for Docklands
Led by the Docklands Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Melbourne, Development Victoria and the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association, the initiative aims to establish a regular waterfront gathering that supports local producers while creating a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.
Its launch event featured more than 40 vendors selling fresh seafood, produce and artisan goods, alongside live music, sea shanties, giveaways and educational activities. One standout attraction was the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s kids’ fishing clinic, which attracted more than 100 participants.
With strong community support and impressive attendance already behind it, organisers are hoping the market becomes a regular fixture on Melbourne’s events calendar.
