Looking for a totally unique cinema experience? Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks is throwing their annual Dome Under Film Festival. Back for its fourth year, this festival showcases a selection of fulldome format films handpicked from around the world. It’s the only film festival of its kind in Australia. Immerse yourself in the sheer scope of a fulldome film, which spans the entirety of the planetarium’s 16-metre domed ceiling. This hemispherical view, complete with surround sound, is unique to planetariums. Enjoy a weekend of back-to-back films from Saturday February 3 to Sunday February 4.
Dome Under Film Festival
The planetarium in Melbourne’s west provides an all-encompassing experience that will leave you star-struck. It features a full dome video projection system, a 16m domed ceiling, reclining seats and a surround sound system.
The program features 26 films from 13 countries, spanning across a vast range of genres. There’s seven themed sessions to choose from – Kid’s Films, Astronomy, Music to Melt your Brain, Mind Blowing Art, World Stories, Future Visions and Art of Science.
“The festival will showcase an array of cutting-edge, awe-inspiring international films that explore the wonders of the universe, blending science, art and entertainment,” said Warik Lawrance, Founder and Curator of Dome Under Festival. “Attendees can expect to be transported to the far reaches of space, witness stunning visuals and gain insights into the mysteries of our world.”
On the last day of the festival, the film selection panel will present awards for Best Astronomy Film, Best Children’s Film, Best Narrative Film, Best Art Film and Best Short Film. These films will then be submitted for consideration in the international Best of Earth Awards, which honour excellence, creativity and innovation in fulldome media.
