After being postponed in 2020, the inaugural Drag Expo is finally coming to Melbourne. The first of its kind in Australia, this expo is all about celebrating everything drag, beauty, kitsch and pop-culture. This fabulous event will bring the glitter and the glamour to Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from Friday August 5 to Sunday August 7.
Drag Expo
This weekend, see the local and international stars of the iconic RuPaul’s Drag Race. Meet drag legends from around Australia, and learn their inspiring stories. After that, go shopping, listen to panels, see runways with Q&A sessions, buy official merchandise, check out a drag market, attend meet and greets and more!
“We have been passionately involved with the Drag scene for over ten years, and love the artistry, colour, positive message and fun that it brings to our country,” said Stephen Craddock, Director of In The Dark Events (ITDEVENTS). This LGBTQI+ production powerhouse is behind the Drag Race Tours in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. “This is our first ever Drag Expo, and it is already shaping up to be an epic, super flamboyant, jam-packed event. Drag Expo will truly shine a light on our colourful world,” he added.
At this expo, you’ll learn all about how drag has evolved over the years, how Australia has sprinkled its own flavour onto the drag scene, and how drag artistes have a message that we can all learn from. The expo will kick off on Friday August 5, with a special VIP Opening Gala, celebrating the talented troupe of drag superstars. Then, over the weekend, you’ll have a chance to catch up with both local and international drag royalty.
This is a family-friendly event. Tickets start from $56.94, and children under ten can enter for free. However, children will need to enter with a ticket-holding adult, and require their own free U10 ticket.
