A free and immersive outdoor experience is taking over Birrarung Marr this September. Enter the exciting Electric Kingdom, and see glimmering installations, roving performances, ambient soundscapes and more. Presented by A Blanck Canvas, this illuminated dreamscape will light up Melbourne from Thursday to Sunday nights, and run from September 7 to 17.
Electric Kingdom
This magical event is centred around seven giant animal installations, such as pandas and giraffes. There’s also a breathtaking Underwater World for you to explore. Each installation has its own unique characteristics, including kinetic movements, storytelling elements, multi-creature compositions and the ability to be puppeteered. Each piece has a distinct lighting design and an original soundscape to keep you captivated.
Feel dazzled by immersive works that animate, roam throughout the space and engage with the crowd. Listen as they tell stories of endangered wildlife, and tales from First Nation peoples.
The creatures of Electric Kingdom first premiered to sold-out crowds at Adelaide Zoo in 2021. This time, it can be experienced in Melbourne for free. An estimated 100,000 visitors will attend this family-friendly experience.
“In times of financial strain, few destinations in the world prioritise free creative events,” said Joe Blanck, Director of A Blanck Canvas. “We are delighted to play a part in rekindling the joy and vibrancy of Melbourne city, while celebrating the incredible creativity of the artists that call it home.”
Electric Kingdom will run from 6pm to 10pm on Thursday to Sunday nights.
Entry is free, but you will need to register and get tickets to secure a place. Sessions run for 30 minutes. Sign up to the waiting list and find more information here.
