Fed Square is Melbourne’s beating heart. It is our meeting place—our public square—and a home to art, culture and our biggest celebrations. It always welcomes and is continuously transforming with free, public events. This month is no different as Fed Square welcomes a series of free Candlelight concerts, where thousands of candles will flicker as the sun sets on the city and music soars through the air.
The Candlelight Concert Series is brought to us by Fed Square in partnership with Fever, the global events platform that has already transformed a number of Melbourne’s iconic and gorgeous venues into dazzling candlelit spaces. Now it’s Fed Square’s turn to twinkle in the night. And, they’re giving away free ice cream!
Fed Square’s Candlelight series of free concerts begin on Valentine’s Day with a selection of Love Songs & Arias. The romantics among us will be treated to an enchanting evening featuring songs from famous artists like Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele and John Legend as well as musical scores from Piazzolla, Puccini and Verdi among other greats. Pianist Van-Anh Nguyen will also perform solo recital of Rachmaninoff and Chopin before being joined by a cellist, a soprano, tenor and pop singer for the other numbers.
From Bach to Beatles continues the Candlelight experience at Fed Square on Friday 18 February. Eclective Strings will kick off the weekend with a sonic adventure through the ages beginning with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 Mvt 1. This will be followed by a number of his pieces interplayed with songs from The Beatles before their early work takes centre stage. The Beatles’ influence and legacy on bands and artists that followed is undeniable and the Candlelight concert will continue with songs from Queen, ABBA, AC/DC and more.
The Greatest Movie Soundtracks has been one of Fever’s best-selling concerts by Candlelight. On Saturday 26 February, Fed Square will provide the memorable backdrop for this third and final free candlelit concert, where songs from famous film composers will sound throughout the evening and attendees will get to relive celebrated scenes through the power of music.
Fed Square’s Candlelight Concert Series begin at 8:15pm on the dot. However, if you’re keen on getting your hands on free ice cream this last month of summer, then you best arrive a little earlier as it will be available from the Popstic cart at the back of the square near Big Esso by Mabu Mabu from 7:30pm. Get in quick because it’s only free for the first 100 people.
