
The highly-anticipated Frida Kahlo exhibition is opening at Bendigo Art Gallery this month, and to celebrate, the whole of Bendigo is lighting up in a four-month-long fiesta. Find plenty of Mexican and Frida-inspired experiences and events in Bendigo and the surrounding areas in Fiesta Bendigo. Think colourful installations, a tasty taco trail, cooking classes and more! The exhibition is on from March 15 to July 13, so if you’re in town, giving you plenty of time to check it out and experience what Bendigo has to offer.

Fiesta Bendigo
Dive into the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo in this exclusive exhibition. See her artworks, as well as her belongings, clothing, make-up, accessories and medical items. These pieces are on loan from the Museo Frida Kahlo in Mexico, and on display in Australia for the very first time.
When you’re not in the art gallery, take a stroll around Bendigo, and see plenty of colourful murals and installations. See the famous Bendigo sign in Rosalind Park, as well as the new ‘VIVA’ installation, inspired by Kahlo’s last painting, Viva La Vida. Don’t miss the Fiesta Tram Cafe, which will be decked out in vibrant florals.
Feeling hungry? Embark on the new Taco Trail and search for the best taco in town. Over 20 local venues will be serving up creative tacos for the public to taste. You can vote for your favourite and enter the draw to win a VIP weekend for two in Bendigo.

Events you can look forward to include:
- Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Fiesta (March 14 to 16) – celebrate the 52nd Dahlia and Arts Festival, which blends the beauty of dahlias with local art, a gala parade and more.
- Blue Agave Spirit (Tequila Maker) Sessions (March 15 to July 13) – Distil a batch of Blue Agave Spirit at Domaine Asmara, then taste their full spirit range and enjoy a charcuterie board.
- Latidos de Mexico: Mexican Art Today (March 15 to July 13) – This exhibition features recent works from artists like Deniol Alva, Ulysses and Lizette Vieyra. Think paintings, photos, sculptures and more.
- Bendigo Latin Festival (March 22) – this free festival will feature lively Latin American music, dance performances, dance workshops, tasty food, a market and festive piñatas.
- Viva Frida Fiesta at Omari Bendigo (March 24) – enjoy a three-course Mexican feast along with a live mariachi band and sangria.
- Mexican Cooking Classes – the Old Church on the Hill will be holding monthly Mexican cooking classes. Check it out on March 30, April 27, May 25 and June 29.
- Floral Headpiece Workshop – celebrate Frida Kahlo’s legacy by taking part in this workshop. Make a headpiece out of silk and dried flowers. Workshops will take place at Omari Bendigo on March 29, May 3, June 28 and July 5.
