It’s been an absolutely hectic week for public transport, and after the disruption caused by the Telstra outage, travel will be free for V/Line passengers on Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14. This means that you won’t need to tap on or off with your myki, or use contactless payment. If you’re travelling on to a Metro service, such as a bus, train or tram, travel will also be free, as long as your journey started with V/Line. Here’s how it works.
Free V/Line Travel
The free travel is very simple if you are staying within the myki or contactless-enabled V/Line network. All you need to do is remember not tap on or off. If you accidentally tap on or off, you will get automatically reimbursed within 48 hours for myki, and 72 hours for contactless payment. If you use a myki Pass, you can apply for a refund here.
If you’ve already booked a ticket for travel on the 13th or 14th, you can apply for a refund, either via the V/Line feedback form, or at the V/Line ticket office if you purchased your ticket in person.
If you are travelling on a long-distance train or a scheduled coach service, simply book your ticket as usual, and it will be given out for free.
Meanwhile, if you are continuing on to a Metro service, you will need a free travel voucher. Vouchers will be available at some staffed V/Line stations, and from the conductor on board the train. This printed voucher can be used as evidence that you used a V/Line service, such as when exiting the gates at Southern Cross Station.
