In good news for sweet tooths everywhere, Gelato Messina has teamed up with cult UK brand, GET BAKED, to bring their famous Bertha chocolate cake to Australia. What is the Bertha cake? It’s a decadent dessert featuring 12 layers of dark chocolate cake, nestled between 12 layers of milk and dark chocolate ganache. This slice of heaven is 24 layers total, and you can try it for yourself. Pre-orders open at 12pm on Monday, August 10, with pick-up available from stores between August 14 and 16.

Rich Myers started doing cake delivery from his mum’s kitchen in 2011, and has since grown GET BAKED to become a beloved brand, shipping over 10,000 desserts a week.
You can order a classic Bertha slice for $40, and if this sounds like a lot, you should know that this single slice can serve two to four people. One slice is reportedly 50% heavier than a certain supermarket chocolate mud cake.
Bertha isn’t coming alone. Meet Mertha, a cake dreamt up by Messina chefs that features 12 layers of chocolate sponge, layered with malt cheesecake and lathered with Milo ganache and Milo crumble. One slice is about a kilo, and also costs $40. A slice of Mertha is suitable for two to four people.
From Tuesday, August 4, a GET BAKED x Messina gelato special will be available in stores for one whole month. This gelato, named Bertha 🧡’s Mertha, is a Bertha chocolate cake gelato with baked malt cheesecake and milo crumble, topped with chocolate ganache.
How to get the dessert
Pre-orders for Bertha and Mertha go live from 12pm on August 10. The Bertha cake is available for pick up from all stores, and can also be delivered to certain postcodes. As Gelato Messina use Australia Post, the lucky ones that get home delivery have to be able to receive ExpressPost within one business day. If you try to order delivery, and it doesn’t work, you will have to arrange for pick up instead. Since the Mertha cake has cheesecake, this dessert is only available for pick up. These two cakes are available for pick up from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16.
