When choosing a tipple, it might be a bit tricky to figure out which wine to go for. To help you out, Halliday Wine Companion has announced its highly anticipated Top 100 Wineries list for 2023. Selected by chief editor, Campbell Mattinson, this acclaimed list celebrates the finest wine producers around Australia. Overall, Victoria led the way with a whopping 42 wineries included in the list. 15 of them were from the Yarra Valley. Meanwhile, 28 wineries were from South Australia, 13 from Western Australia, nine from Tasmania and eight from New South Wales. In the prestigious Top 10, half of the wine producers were from Victoria.

There was a set of criteria to ensure that each winery had an equal chance of making it on the list. Each location had to have recently submitted wines to the Companion and the Halliday Tasting Team. High-scoring wines were also praised for quality and consistency.
“Vineyards, varieties, vintages and sub-regions are critical, of course, but the producer — the decision makers in the process — are of great importance and are often the deciding factor,” said Campbell Mattinson. “In short, this is a list of producers who know, in both their heart and in their head, that consumers don’t owe them a living. This is a list of producers who are prepared to stake their reputation on every single wine they release.”
