Founders Kieran Spiteri and Ben Argentino are opening a new deli, as an homage to their love of good food and great tunes. Expect a mix of high-quality chef-designed sandwiches, delicious coffee and indulgent shakes. While you order your food, soak in the atmosphere and listen to a rotating mix of vinyl music. Hi Fi will open its doors in Collingwood on Thursday January 27.
Hi Fi – a neighbourhood deli with a difference
This new venue will be a short stroll away from Terror Twilight, and will offer takeaway service only. Spiteri and Argentino wanted to remove the idea of takeaway as an afterthought, and are serving up high quality, fast and delicious food, that would be the star of any meal.
“The idea behind Hi Fi was inspired by a super successful collaboration we did with Meat Maiden,” said Spiteri. “To set the scene, on this day the music was on point, the vibe in the venue was so energetic, and to top it all off, we sold out of sandwiches within hours. It was also on this day that we created a hot sauce called HiFi hot sauce. I said to our executive chef Dale Kemp after the event that we should open a sandwich joint called Hi Fi, and so the bones of the venture were born.”
Sink your teeth into some tasty sandwiches
Expect a simple yet spectacular menu, of curated bagels, sandwiches, sides, coffee and shakes. Highlights of the menu include a Reuben sandwich, a Mushroom and Taleggio toastie and a fancy Panko Crumbed Fish on a steamed potato bun.
“We didn’t want to just open another deli, but focus on quality made sandwiches, along with some guilty pleasures like Curly Fries and shakes,” said Argentino.
“We’ve spent the last six months working on what we think is a super balanced and tasty menu that we believe the greater Collingwood community will greatly appreciate,” said Spiteri.
But enough about the food, what about the tunes? Both Spiteri and Argentino wanted this venue to celebrate music. As a result, they’ll curate an ever-rotating and eclectic mix of vinyl.
“We’re all about good tunes, ” said Argentino. “As well as being lifelong music lovers and having many musician friends, we feel that placing a large emphasis on music adds a unique dynamic to our venues. Our intention was always to make Hi Fi a real muso hang out.”
To celebrate their launch, Hi Fi will give way free coffee all day on January 27. After that, they will open 7 days a week, from 9am to 3pm.
