Welcome to Howlerwood.
If you haven’t guessed by the name alone, Howlerwood is Howler’s summer pop-up beer garden. But if things go to plan, then Howlerwood is going to be sticking around for a lot longer than just the summer. With plans to at least be operational for the next six months, we’re pretty damn excited to make the most of this beer garden while we can. That means while the sun is out.
Having opened at 8 Michael Street last weekend, which is the very same space that thankfully saw Moreland City Council reject an eight-storey development, Howlerwood can fit up to 150 people and a few pooches as well. The space has been decorated with 1960s Palm Springs in mind with a verifiable nod to Wes Anderson’s colour palette. There are light blues, oranges and a bit of brown from the wooden tabletops amongst all the greenery — plenty of plants and astroturf.
Summer is here and drinks menu clearly reflects the heat we’re expecting to swelter in. In other words, slushies. Boozy, flavourful, and ice cold. Just the way we like them. But if they’re not for you, Howlerwood is also serving up jugs of rosé sangria to share, and Aperol Spritzes to keep to yourself. Being Howler, there’s also plenty of tinnies and natural wines on the drinks list.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Red Sparrow opens up their vegan pizzeria food truck so you don’t need to go walking up and down Sydney Road once the hunger pangs begin.
Find Howlerwood next door to Howler, but entry is from Michael Street on the other side.
