Explore colourful installations, feel nostalgic and find a sense of happiness at the new Immigration Museum exhibition, Joy. Seven Victorian-based artists are sharing what joy means to them with a variety of delightful rooms. Journey back in time to a 90s video store, cuddle up with a gigantic soft toy rabbit and more. Joy is the Immigration Museum’s biggest exhibition since 2020. It’s now open for you to explore, and will stay in town until August 29, 2025.
Joy at Immigration Museum
Find out what brings joy to others, and feel cheerful yourself, when you wander through this vibrant exhibition. Every space tells a story, ranging from the innocent days of childhood to a celebration of togetherness.
“In 2018, the Immigration Museum presented the much-adored Love exhibition, embracing stories of identity, belonging and togetherness – and Joy very much continues this journey,” said Lynley Crosswell, Museums Victoria CEO & Director. “Through newly commissioned works by a diverse and talented pool of artists, this glorious new exhibition sees Immigration Museum come to life in a vibrant celebration of joy – a testament to the resilience and creativity of the human spirit.”
The artists in the exhibition include: Elyas Alavi (with Sher Ali), Spencer Harrison, Nadia Hernández, Nixi Killick, Jazz Money, Beci Orpin and Callum Preston.
Strut your stuff on the runway, see large-scale murals, try out a joy generator and more. Then, share what makes you happy on the colourful ‘Share Your Joy’ wall.
The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
