Pompeii is in need of a new director and applicants from all over the world are welcome.
The old 9 to 5 just not cutting it anymore? Over the hum drum of dreary England? Well, the new director of Pompeii position may be right up your street. Don’t quit your day job just yet though, as there will be plenty of competition by the looks of things.
Italy’s cultural minister is currently looking for someone to run Pompeii, the former ancient Roman city that was buried after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. This archaeological site features fascinating ruins of streets and houses and brings in millions of tourists each year.
The best news is that anyone can apply for this job (well, anyone that knows a thing or two about Roman ruins). The application is open to all nationalities and a worldwide search for the best candidate has already begun.
Dario Franceschini, Italy’s minister of cultural heritage, activities and tourism said “Pompeii is loved by archaeologists from all over the world. We imagine that many applications will arrive.”
As it stands, the position is for four years, however, the contract may be extended down the line. And according to Franceschini, the director will definitely have their work cut out for them. He said “This is a job which brings big satisfaction as well as great responsibility. There will be digging and more big discoveries to be made.”
If you think you have what it takes to run this world-famous site, the deadline for the application is November 3. So dig up those history book, dust off that CV and apply here!
