Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx is coming to Melbourne. Starring in the Amazon MGM Studios film, Deadlocked, Foxx play a grieving ex-Marine on jury duty, who is forced back into action when a high-profile trial turns into a deadly hostage situation. As part of the shoot, Melbourne will transform into New York, with large-scale action sequences planned across Docklands. Locations across the CBD and Port Melbourne will also feature in the film, alongside Docklands Studios Melbourne. Filming is scheduled to begin next week and run until mid-December.
Deadlocked filming in Melbourne
The film will be directed by Nikhil Bhat, with Melbourne filmmaker Paul Currie among the executive producers. Currie was also a producer on another film shot in Melbourne, Ricky Stanicky, starring Zac Efron and John Cena. On the cast, you’ll also find Luke Hemsworth, Sasha Calle and KiKi Layne.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Victoria with our incredible cast and crew making another high-octane thriller,” said Currie. “Melbourne’s CBD is an extraordinary backdrop for a film of this scale, and we’re looking forward to bringing some excitement to the city for Melburnians as we film some spectacular action sequences.”

Deadlocked will create over 855 jobs for local cast and crew, with roles for 1,000 extras. It will also work with 370 Victorian businesses, including screen industry experts working in armoury, safety and stunts.
According to The Age, the former NAB building will double as a New York courthouse, with siege scenes being shot between October 10 and 20. Nearby residents were warned that on the weekends, during the day, imitation firearms will be used for the scenes. So, don’t be alarmed if you hear any loud bangs during this time.
Secured by VicScreen, this production is the latest in many other projects being filmed around Melbourne and Victoria, including Liam Neeson’s Ice Road: Vengeance and Brie Larson’s Skeleton.
