Marnong Estate, a winery and sustainable farm just 35 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, has now opened a contemporary Italian restaurant. La Vetta, which translates to ‘The Summit’ in Italian, is set against rolling hills and the picturesque backdrop of the Macedon Ranges. At La Vetta, you’ll find an inventive take on old-world Italian cuisine, with traditional cooking techniques alongside modern flavours.
La Vetta at Marnong Estate
Led by Executive Chef Salvatore Giorgio (+39, A25, Bar Bambi), the menu at La Vetta is inspired by lesser known dishes and the stories behind them, passed down through the generations. Giorgio drew upon his recent travels through Italy to develop his menu. He journeyed through small villages in the south, which deepened his love for regional cuisine. You’ll find dishes that are made from locally-sourced produce, and characterised by simple flavours.
Highlights include:
- Wagyu Bresaola, lemon, Parmigiano aged 36 months
- Burrata con giardiniera
- Capretto, baby goat, new potato, peas, pecorino
- Risotto alla carbonara, guanciale, farmhouse yolk, pepper, Parmigiano
- Arancino, coconut milk, Nutella, raspberry, white chocolate
- Cannolo, tiramisu, chocolate coffee beans
As for drinks, the wine list features plenty of Estate wines, alongside a selection of Italian drinks and Italian varietals.
La Vetta features floor-to-ceiling windows that will allow you to take in sweeping views of the winery and the nearby Macedon Ranges. It seats 120 people in the dining room, and 30 guests in the intimate cocktail bar.
It is now open Thursday to Sunday, from 12pm to 3pm for lunch, and from 6pm till late for dinner. While you’re at Marnong Estate, be sure to check out the outdoor Caffè Vista and the relaxed eatery, Cucina 3064.
