It’s been a few months since the Art of the Brick exhibition left Melbourne, and soon, LEGO fans will have another bricktacular experience to look forward to. Fly to a galaxy far, far away and feel amazed by LEGO Star Wars: The Exhibition. This incredible experience will be the first and only LEGO Star Wars exhibition of its size in the world. Marvel at towering structures, awesome starships and your favourite characters, then join in on the fun with your own builds. LEGO Star Wars: The Exhibition will open at Melbourne Museum on, (when else?), May the Fourth next year. After opening on Star Wars Day, it will stay in town until January 26, 2026.
LEGO Star Wars: The Exhibition at Melbourne Museum
This exhibition is the brainchild of Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught, the same artist behind the Museum’s Bricktionary exhibition in 2022. Brickman is the only LEGO Certified Professional in the southern hemisphere, and is also one of the world’s leading LEGO brick artists.
“Fans will be blown away by the scale of this experience,” said Brickman. “Building these iconic scenes and characters in LEGO Star Wars form is an extremely complex task – taking the humble LEGO brick and using it by the millions to translate into Star Wars builds and models at an epic scale the world has never seen before.”
Building for the exhibition is currently in progress, and it’s estimated that it will take over 25,000 hours to complete. It will also use over 8 million bricks.
Look forward to plenty of familiar characters, references and even behind-the-scenes glimpses of the films. Some of the masterful models will be up to four metres high.
When you’re not admiring the builds, let the Force flow through you and join in on some interactive activities. Build, battle and explore the galaxy, and help piece together some landscapes from the series. You can also face off against your friends by creating LEGO fighters and starships, which will then be digitally brought to life to create some epic space battles.
The waitlist is now up, so you can be the first to hear about tickets and updates.
Can’t wait to see it? Pop by the Melbourne Museum foyer for a little sneak peek, and check out the X-wing Red 5. This model is over three metres tall, and was built over 382 hours. It features a whopping 64,759 bricks. The X-wing is available for you to see for a limited time only, from November 19 to December 2.
