Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl is set to host one of the city’s biggest New Year’s Eve parties for a second year, with dancehall-electronic heavyweights Major Lazer headlining the 2026 edition of New Year’s at the Bowl.
The festival, presented by Live Nation, will take over the Bowl and the surrounding Kings Domain gardens on Wednesday, 31st December, running from late afternoon into the early hours of 2027 with music across three stages until 1.30am.
A second year, bigger and bolder
After a well-received debut in 2025 that featured acts like Underworld and Carl Cox, organisers are doubling down on the format that turned the Bowl and its gardens into a multi-zone NYE destination.
Catering to Melbourne’s famously diverse music scene, this year’s lineup stretches from Major Lazer’s global dancehall-pop on the main stage to soul and live bands in the Garden—culminating in deep, club-focused sets at the 360-degree Sundial.
PBS FM’s Milo Eastwood will host and soundtrack The Bowl through the day, while a special guest— still under wraps—will steer the midnight countdown.
Major Lazer’s first Australian show in more than a decade
At the top of the bill, Major Lazer will play their first Australian show since 2015, bringing a catalogue that includes hits like “Lean On”, “Cold Water” and “Light It Up” to an open-air Melbourne summer night.
Founded by Diplo, the group now features Diplo, Walshy Fire, Ape Drums and America Foster, who joined as the project’s first full-time vocalist in 2025. In 2026 alone they’ve played some of the world’s biggest stages, from Coachella and Governors Ball to Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Moreover, their return to Australia marks a rare chance to see one of modern dance music’s most recognisable acts in a festival setting, and squarely on New Year’s Eve.

The Garden stage is positioned to move through live music, soul and disco, while the Sundial will push deeper into club sounds, giving the night distinct sonic identities across the one site.
Tickets, presale and birthday freebies
Limited earlybird general admission tickets start from $169.90 plus fees in a presale that opens Monday, 7th September at 12pm AEST and runs until Tuesday, 8th September at 12pm AEST.
Some tickets are already open, allowing fans to lock in tickets ahead of presale at a fixed price of $179.90 plus fees, with limited inventory. Any remaining tickets go on general sale Tuesday 8th September from 1pm AEST.

Mike Ross, promoter for New Year’s at the Bowl, says last year proved how naturally the venue and gardens work for NYE, and that this edition will lean into that. “Last year showed how naturally the Bowl and surrounding gardens work for New Year’s Eve,” Ross says.
The hope is it becomes a New Year’s Eve tradition—somewhere that people with different tastes can come together every year.” Arts Centre Melbourne’s Glen Hirst adds that the Bowl, which has been a cornerstone of the city’s entertainment scene since 1959, is an ideal spot to welcome in the new year.
“Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the world’s greatest outdoor music venue, has been an essential part of Melbourne’s entertainment scene since 1959,” Hirst says. “Right in the heart of the city surrounded by the beautiful Kings Domain gardens, it is the perfect spot to welcome in the new year. Last year’s celebration was a huge hit, and we can’t wait to bring New Year’s at the Bowl back, bigger and better for round two!”
