The world moves pretty fast, and it feels as though every day, there’s something just that little bit different about Google. From algorithm changes to AI overviews, it’s easy to get lost amongst it all. To make things a bit easier, for us and for you, there is a feature called preferred sources, which lets you choose which news outlets and websites you’d like to see appear more often in Top Stories. This feature launched in Australia earlier this year, and if you’d like to see more of Secret Melbourne on Google, here’s how it works.
How to add Secret Melbourne as a preferred source
The easiest way for you to do it would be to click this link, and then tick the box that says “Secret Melbourne”.

You can also update your preferred sources through Top Stories. To do it:
- Search for a news topic and click on the icon to the right of Top Stories
- Search and select as many preferred sources as you like (*cough* such as Secret Melbourne)
- Refresh your results

What you’ll see after adding us to your preferred sources

Once you’ve made the change, you’ll see articles from Secret Melbourne featured more prominently on Google’s Top Stories, or in a dedicated ‘From Your Sources’ section on the search results page. This way, you’ll get more curated, local coverage from us, and your other trusted sources. You can update or change your preferred sources whenever you want, and don’t worry, you will still be able to see stories from other news outlets.
