Melbourne will glow with a regal purple tonight, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s death was announced in the early hours of Friday morning in Australia. She was 96 years old, and her reign lasted for 70 years. As a sign of respect to the late Queen, fifteen iconic landmarks around Melbourne will light up in the royal purple.
These landmarks lit up at sunset today, and will continue to be purple each night, until the Queen’s funeral in ten days time.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to also pay your respects, you can do so by signing a condolence book outside Government House in Melbourne. There’s a temporary memorial at the gates of Government House, so that you can lay flowers and tributes if you wish. If you can’t make it in person, you can also send your condolences online at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
