Melbourne Museum is lighting up this summer with a stack of fun events. After checking out some cool exhibitions, have a merry old time at the Plaza outside. Whether you’re enjoying the summer sunshine or the balmy nights, have a play on the illuminated swings and seesaws, and tap into your inner child. These incredible outdoor activities are open daily from 9am to 11pm.
Summer of Play at Melbourne Museum
Embrace your youth and have fun on interactive installations from Melbourne art and technology studio ENESS. Move back and forth on the neon I Believe Swings. After that, explore the elemental forces of play on the Light Seesaws.
While you’re there, play some board games or enjoy a game of ping pong and handball. A Plaza Play Concierge will be there from 12 to 5pm every day to help you pick up your game pieces and paddles.
During the day, visit the 196 Below ice cream truck for flavours inspired by the museum. This ice cream truck is open from 11am Wednesdays to Sundays.
On Friday and Saturday nights this January, the Plaza will be buzzing with DJ sets, pop-up bars and more. Elevate your evening experience with twilight tours of the Dome Promenade, after-hours access to Tyama, LEGO masterclasses for adults and late night screenings at IMAX. The full program of Plaza Nights hasn’t been released yet, but one special night you can look forward to is a celebration of the Lunar New Year. This event will feature Vietnamese food trucks, DJ sets inspired by Lunar New Year, ice cream and cocktails.
Summer of Play at Melbourne Museum starts on December 24 and ends on February 26. For more information and details, click here.
