On Saturday, 29 November, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is welcoming a one-off performance of Ministry of Sound CLASSICAL in Melbourne, where the symphonic energy of the Ministry of Sound Orchestra meets the euphoric beats of iconic dance and club anthems. From 3pm to 10pm, the striking theatre in Kings Domain will transform into an open-air festival for this grand celebration of the greatest moments in dance music.
Tickets are already sold out. But not all hope is lost for those who were keen on a boogie but never bit the bullet and bought a ticket. People’s plans change, and there’s plenty of time before the epic night for that to happen. And, there are already tickets popping up on the official fan-to-fan marketplace.
Ministry of Sound CLASSICAL: Headliners and festival lineup
The veteran nightclub collective Ministry of Sound has paired their notable orchestra with dance music royalty to reinterpret the electrifying hits that defined generations. Headliners include French electronic duo Cassius and UK legend Judge Jules, alongside Aussie scene troupers such as house hero John Course, SGT Slick and Minx. Joining them on stage are vocal powerhouses Reigan (ARIA Nominee, “Dreams”), Karina Chavez (“Show Me Love”), Rudy (TV Rock’s In The Air), Lady Lyric (Classical tour favourite), and Luke Antony (The Voice).
Elevating the outdoor rave experience
Leading the charge are Vanessa Perica, one of Australia’s most acclaimed contemporary composers you may know from her multiple collaborations with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, alongside DJ Groove Terminator, the legendary Australian DJ that’s given us “One More Time (The Sunshine Song)” and “Here Comes Another One”.
The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is no stranger to large-scale performances and The Seekers’ 1967 homecoming show is a good example. It was the biggest concert ever to be performed in the Southern Hemisphere, according to the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records, with an estimated attendance of 200,000 people.
The venue offers seating for roughly 2000 and lawns that accommodate over 10,000 more. 20205’s Ministry of Sound summer show leans into the venue’s strengths with immersive visuals, multiple stages, a silent disco and curated bars that heighten the typical concert night out.
Classical Music in Melbourne
Ministry of Sound’s CLASSICAL is an unconventional take on dance and classical music. However, it’s not the only Melbourne night out that delivers your favourite contemporary hits in the classical form. There’s the glowing Candlelight concerts, which are taking on 90s rock, contemporary Indian hits, and Christmas carols this season, as well as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming schedule, alongside a whole host of other live, classical music concerts for Melburnians to choose from.
