We love a good hidden bar, and tucked underneath Flinders Street Station, you’ll find an intimate venue set inside a rediscovered basement. Rumoured to once be a morgue, this space has been carefully designed to provide a mixture of history and sophistication. Walk down the stairs and grab a drink at Miss Gunn’s. Named after Ada May Gunn, who ran The Loungers’ Club beneath the station in the early 1900s, this venue features elegant cocktails inspired by the same era, as well as a selection of delicious bites. It’s open on Thursdays from 4pm to 11pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm to 1am. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome too.
Step into a bygone era at Miss Gunn’s basement bar
To find this cocktail bar, pop into Clocks at Flinders, find the neon ‘G’ sign and walk down the stairs. Around the space, you’ll see the original bluestone foundations and brickwork, which will make you feel like you’ve journeyed back in time.
Take a seat and unwind with one of their signature cocktails, such as The Miss Gunn, which features gin, Campari and Rouge Vermouth, or Loaded Gunn, which includes mezcal infused with chilli oil, Aperol, passionfruit ferment and lime juice.
Otherwise, there’s plenty of other drinks to try, including wine, whiskey, sparkling, liqueurs, beer, gin and more.
Pair your drink with a tasty dish or snack, such as beef cheek croquettes, steak & frites, buffalo chicken popcorn, sticky pork bites or oven-baked brie with fig jam.
