Get swept up in the Hallyu wave this May with the Month Of Korea, a celebration of Korean culture, community and heritage in Melbourne. Presented by the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Melbourne, and supported by the Victorian Government, the City of Melbourne and Korean communities, this massive month will feature a stack of exciting events, including a film festival and the official opening ceremony of Koreatown.
What can you expect during the Month of Korea?
Koreatown Opening Ceremony
Late last year, Healeys Lane was officially declared as Melbourne’s own Koreatown. Swing by for the Koreatown Opening Ceremony on Saturday May 17, and look forward to a grand unveiling of traditional Korean totem poles (Jang-seung), as well as Melbourne’s largest bibimbap tasting event. You can expect appearances from government officials, as well as special guests. The festivities will kick off at 11am, and you’ll find it all happening on Little Lonsdale Street between William Street and King Street.
Korean Film Festival in Melbourne
Korean Film Festival in Melbourne (KOFIM) is coming back for its second edition. Head to ACMI and feel amazed by a curated selection of Korean films, spanning a range of genres like action, drama and historical pieces. The festival will take place over two weekends, on May 17, 18, 24 and 25.
Korea Festival in Fed Square
Head to Fed Square and have a blast at the Korea Festival. Celebrate the best in Korean food, music and entertainment over two fabulous days. Browse through stalls for tasty street food and unique products, play traditional games and watch the K-pop dance competition. You can also expect other live performances, such as music and cultural showcases, throughout the festival. Check it out on Saturday May 24 and Sunday May 25.
