There’s so many ways for you to embrace the season in the High Country this month, such as a new winter festival in Bright, and an overnight dome experience on Mt Hotham. And now, a new event is coming to Victoria’s alpine region that will make you feel as though you’ve landed in one of the famous Christmas markets of Europe. Escape to Mt Buller this winter, stroll through the alpine village and experience an enchanting new winter night market. As you walk through the village square, you’ll encounter bustling stalls offering tasty treats, cosy drinks and more. The winter night markets will take place on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.

When you’re not playing in the snow or hitting the slopes, follow the sparkling lights to the village square. Warm up and toast marshmallows by crackling firepits, and enjoy the atmosphere with a bit of live music.
“It’s all about bringing a classic European winter feel to the resort for a winter weekend,” said Visitor Experience Manager Nick Reeves. “Rustic, timber cabin style stalls have been handmade for the event, inspired by the style of markets you would usually need to fly to Austria, Italy or Switzerland to experience.”
Browse through the stalls, where you’ll find a mix of local vendors from bars, restaurants, artists and retailers. Warm up with glühwein, treat yourself to roasted chestnuts and find some gifts to take home.
“It’s wonderful to showcase local businesses with ‘pop-ups’ on these evenings as well as friends from the valley bringing their art, local spirits, food and gifts to the mountain,” said Reeves.
As the sun sets, you can look forward to roving entertainment, a captivating fire show and even a fireworks display on Saturday night.
On Saturdays in peak season, you can ski and snowboard on the Bourke Street ski run under lights until 8pm. This beginner run overlooks the village, so you can go straight from the slopes to the market.
