A new community park will open in the new Flemington precinct this year, adding a much-needed stretch of green space to Melbourne’s inner north-west as a major housing redevelopment takes shape.
Murnalung Park, a 5,000-square-metre public space within the Holland Court precinct, debuts in mid-2026 ahead of the broader residential project’s completion.
Designed as both a neighbourhood hub and a place to unwind, the park will feature landscaped gardens, open lawns, walking paths and a large children’s play area, alongside a scooter track, outdoor exercise equipment, and spaces for community markets and picnics.
Its name, “Murnalung,” comes from the Woi Wurrung language and means “bee,” a nod to the park’s intended role as a social gathering place. Local Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Elders helped choose the name, grounding the development in the area’s cultural heritage.
A new green heart for Flemington

The park sits at the centre of the wider Holland Court redevelopment, which will deliver 286 new homes through Victoria’s Big Housing Build.
Also, the mix includes one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, alongside social and affordable housing options and Specialist Disability Accommodation. Homes will include energy-efficient features, modern kitchens, European laundries and private balconies.
Beyond housing, new public infrastructure is reshaping the precinct, introducing a pocket park, amphitheatre, forecourt and upgraded pedestrian and cycling connections designed to better link the site with the surrounding Flemington neighbourhood.
Moreover, Housing and Building Minister Nick Staikos said the project aims to create a more liveable and connected community. “Holland Court is going to be a vibrant, modern, green space for local families—both those who live there and the wider community,” he said.
Member for Essendon Danny Pearson added that the park would play a key role in bringing residents together. “I am thrilled about the opening of Murnalung Park—a space designed to bring the Flemington community together,” he said.
Part of a larger Flemington Precinct

The Victorian Government is delivering the Holland Court project under the Ground Lease Model, part of a broader plan to redevelop 44 public housing towers across the state.
According to Homes Victoria, the Flemington precinct builds on earlier renewal projects nearby, including upgrades along Victoria Street, while introducing new open space in an increasingly dense urban area.
Once open, Murnalung Park will serve as both a backyard for future residents and a shared space for the wider community, making it a small but significant piece of green relief in one of Melbourne’s fastest-changing neighbourhoods.
