You know the story of Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up. But, do you know what Neverland was like before Peter, Captain Hook and Wendy came along? Go on an enchanting journey and experience the theatrical spectacle of Peter and the Starcatcher. This Tony Award-winning play tells the untold tale of Neverland, with over 100 characters, puppetry, live music and technical wizardry. This Broadway sensation, originally developed by Disney Theatrical Group, is touring nationally in 2024. It will make its Australian premiere in Canberra, before starting a season at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse in November 2024.
Peter and the Starcatcher
Based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, this magical tale will chart a course back in time, when Peter Pan was a young orphan. Meet moustachioed pirates, mystical mermaids, lost orphans and Wendy’s mother, Molly, in this captivating play.
Written by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, Adams Family), Peter and the Starcatcher will be reimagined by Australia’s Dead Puppet Society. Known for their visually stunning worlds, this production will blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
“To have the opportunity to bring an all-new production to Australian audiences, reimagined with Dead Puppet Society’s approach to design-led theatre and stagecraft, is both an honour and a dream come true,” said David Morton, Creative Director of Dead Puppet Society. Morton will also be the Director and the Designer of the reimagined play.
“Ultimately this is a story of villains finding their heroes, of timeless friendships, and fates that can’t be avoided,” he added. “But don’t be fooled… this isn’t just a show for young people, it’s for the young at heart, and anyone else who never wanted to grow up.”
