Tucked away in a Melbourne laneway, you’ll find an intimate theatre that fits just 32 guests. Inspired by European cabaret salons and New York’s supper clubs, this unassuming space offers a magical and surprising experience for each audience member. Sip on a glass of wine, and feel enchanted by magicians just metres away. Piccolo Teatro opened their doors earlier this year, and since then, performances have consistently sold out. They have shows every Saturday and Sunday, as well as additional events for the school holidays.

This intimate space was created by FISM World Champion of Magic Sam Angelico, as well as Julia Madotti and Richard Vegas of Raconteur Productions. Together, they have decades of experience in theatre, magic and live entertainment.
They’ve transformed a warehouse space into a tiny theatre, filled with old-world charm. Feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret space as you walk through the door and climb the wooden staircase, where you’ll see vintage velvet drapes, a mini stage, atmospheric lighting and antique chairs. Grab a drink from the licenced bar, and settle in for an intriguing show.
“People are looking for experiences they’ll remember and want to share,” said Julia Madotti. “We wanted to create a venue that feels intimate, immersive and distinctly Melbourne. With just 32 seats, every audience becomes part of the performance, allowing people to slow down, connect and experience something they simply couldn’t in a larger theatre.”
Each week, either Sam Angelico or Richard Vegas will perform a show, along with a guest performer. Look forward to illusions, mind reading, magic and even cabaret. The main shows take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 7pm, with an extra 4pm show on Saturday. These performances typically last for 1 hour and 20 minutes. With places like Hardware Lane just moments away, you can easily grab dinner or dessert before or after the show.
