Whether you’ve got fond memories of turning on the TV and watching Play School, or you’ve got little ones of your own, there’s a nostalgic new exhibition that’s sure to warm your heart. Young fans are invited to check out Play School: Come and Play! at ACMI and see how an episode is made, from the production office to the set. This free exhibition is perfect for those aged two to five, and is open from now until Sunday July 12.
Play School: Come and Play!
This exhibition from ACMI and the ABC celebrates a whopping 60 years of this beloved children’s show. Play School first aired on the ABC in 1966, and is the longest-running children’s program in Australia.
Playful pre-schoolers can pretend to be a presenter, camera operator or director, sing along to their favourite songs, hear stories beneath the rocket clock and meet Big Ted, Little Ted, Jemima, Humpty and Kiya.

“This magical and memorable exhibition allows families to step inside the iconic TV series we all know and love,” said ACMI Director & CEO Seb Chan. “Rather than a nostalgic look back, it’s a celebration of how an episode of Play School is made in 2026.”
ACMI and the ABC will also present Play School Talks, a three-part speaker series that will focus on early learning through the screen.
Meanwhile, the free guided experience ACMI Preschoolers will continue to run each month, allowing little ones to learn through play.
Pop into the shop for exclusive collectibles, like T-shirts, tote bags, stickers and enamel pins.
