From Colin Firth’s wet shirt moment and Matthew Macfadyen’s squeal-worthy hand flex, to Bollywood blockbusters and zombie flicks, there have been a lot of Pride and Prejudice adaptations over the years. And since we just can’t get enough of this Jane Austen masterpiece, there’s a hilarious new version coming to Australian stages next year. Get ready for Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of). After winning an Olivier Award for Best Comedy, this irreverent retelling features five talented women and plenty of pop classics. It will play in Melbourne at the Athenaeum Theatre from June 18 to July 12.

Have a laugh as you watch five women take on multiple roles as servants, as well as the main characters like Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy and Mrs Bennet. As the story unfolds, you’ll hear familiar pop songs like Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain.
“We both saw Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) in London,” said producers Neil Gooding and Alex Woodward. “It opened in the West End not long after COVID had ravaged the arts, and it was a hilarious little joy-bomb that we all badly needed to bring us back to theatres. It is clever, funny and quirky, and allows a cast of amazing female actors, comediennes and singers to showcase all of their skills. We can’t wait to bring the show to Australia for the first time… and to reveal the amazing performers who will bring the show to life!”
