There will be extra public transport services on both Friday and Saturday in celebration of the AFL Grand Final. On Friday, for the Grand Final public holiday, all public transport will run to a regular Saturday timetable, with 25 extra train services and 8 extra tram services across the network. Meanwhile, on Saturday, there will be extra services to help you get to the MCG. The Free Tram Zone will also be extended out to the MCG along routes 48, 70 and 75, from Wednesday September 27 to Saturday September 30. This means you won’t need to tap on and off when travelling between the CBD and the MCG.
Public transport on Friday
Keen to head to the Footy Festival or check out the Grand Final Parade on Friday September 29? There will be extra services to help you get there.
Take a stroll and check out the festivities by leaving from Jolimont, Richmond and Flinders Street Station. There will be extra train services to and from these stations. Affected train lines include Mernda, Greensborough, Ringwood, Syndal, Pakenham, Frankston, Sandringham, Werribee, Sunbury and Craigieburn. There will also be additional services to and from Southern Cross Station on the V/Line.
The Parade will begin at 10:30am from Melbourne Park, and will travel along Birrarung Marr to Yarra Park, ending at 12:30pm. As for the Footy Festival, you can find player appearances, giveaways, food trucks, music and more around the Yarra Park precinct. The festival is on from 9:30pm to 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It will then open from 8am to 7pm on Saturday.

The match between Collingwood and Brisbane will kick off at 2:30 pm. Extra services on Saturday include:
- Up to 184 additional trams on routes 48, 70 and 75
- 38 extra metropolitan train services on the Mernda, Hurstbridge, Glen Waverley, Pakenham, Sandringham, Sunbury, Craigieburn, Lilydale, Belgrave and Frankston lines before and after the game
- Additional regional services on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour, Shepparton and Echuca lines
There will be road closures around the MCG and Yarra Park Precinct on this day, affecting areas like Wellington Parade, Jolimont Road and Brunton Avenue. Find more details here.
